What is color blindness?

Color vision deficiency affects roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women. The most common forms are red-weak (protanopia), green-weak (deuteranopia), and blue-weak (tritanopia).

Why simulate color blindness in design?

Roughly 8% of users see colors differently than your design tools. Simulating common deficiencies lets you catch information that relies only on color and add icons, labels, or shapes as backup.

Which color combinations should I avoid?

Red and green together are the hardest pairing for the most common form (deuteranopia). Use brightness or saturation contrast in addition to hue.

Is the simulation scientifically accurate?

It uses the Brettel-Vienot-Mollon transformation, the standard model used in accessibility research. It is a close approximation but real perception varies between individuals.
